The African Community of Practice (AfCoP) wants to maintain in its 2017 action plan the promotion of a culture of results in Africa in relation to the development policies of governments. Yesterday the actors said, at the opening of the 8th Annual Meeting of the platform.

With more than 5,300 members across Africa and beyond, AfCoP’s main mission, according to its co-chairman Seydou Yayé, is to improve the lives of citizens across the continent, Development Results Management (DRM). This, to make lasting changes. Established in 2007, the AfCoP also aims to strengthen the capacities of African countries, strengthen their institutions and those sub-regional. But at the same time, to support national efforts to implement the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness and the commitment made in Busan to promote South-South cooperation.

However, as the AfCoP Project (Phase 1) is nearing completion this year, the main objective of this event is to maintain the promotion of a results culture in Africa and to discuss the impact and sustainability of AfCoP beyond the Project, “said project coordinator Victoria Chisala, who is also the head of the Performance Division (SNDR) at the African Development Bank (AfDB). She said the platform was a response to the call from developing countries for increased ownership and leadership in the development of the results program. Thus, the AfCoP developed the Africa for Results Initiative (AfriK4R) as a regional development approach. This will help to materialize the vision by mobilizing African stakeholders around the agendas of regional development outcomes.

By choosing Managing for Development Results as a lever to support key institutional reforms that can foster increased political commitment, AfCoP is positioning itself, according to the minister in charge of the emerging Senegal Plan (PSE) Abdoul Aziz Tall, on a ‘ ‘A stack of issues’ for the future of Africa. “With a view to contributing to the improvement of the living conditions of citizens across Africa, the organization has developed a framework for action entitled the African Results Initiative (Afrik4R), Which is a regional approach to the development problem aimed at supporting the realization of this vision “.

For his part, the representative of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), Aly Coulibaly, argued that the assessment of the state of implementation of the AfriK4R Initiative, Project AfCoP, “deserves a critical analysis, without complacency” so that lessons are learned from its implementation. “The sustainability of the AfCoP will depend on its ability to generate results among the beneficiaries of the project: the sole guarantee of its legitimacy or credibility. Overall, the lack of results can be a source of demotivation of the actors involved in the project, “he said.

For phase 2 of the platform to be held during 2017, the actors suggest support in carrying out the activities financed since 2016, for each component, in three areas. These include improving the business climate, managing public finances and facilitating trade.
